What is a shellac file and polish

As manicure trends come and go, there are a few trusted methods that remain popular — and shellac is one of them. You've probably heard about it, and maybe your manicurist regularly asks if you want to try it, but what exactly is shellac, and why does everyone rave on about it? So, if you've been calling all gel manicures "shellac," you've been getting it wrong — but don't worry, I've made the same mistake too. To clarify, shellac is the brand name of gel polish, not an umbrella term used for all gel nail polishes.

Sold on shellac yet? If you're still unsure whether or not to try shellac, Kandalec explains all you need to know below. Similar to acrylics and other gel nail polishes, shellac manicures are a multi-step process. All of these layers are treated and cured with UV light to make them last longer, appear glossier, and prevent chipping. Depending on the speed of your nail professional, a shellac manicure can take anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour — but that's not all.

You won't have to sit around for hours waiting for the shellac to dry. The manicure is cured with a special LED lamp made exclusively for shellac. It takes a short space of time to apply the polish and a short space of time to remove them. In as little as 5 minutes your polish can be removed.

Something else that sets CND shellac aside from other nail polish brands is that it is free from certain potentially harmful substances including formaldehyde. As the nail polish is cured under an LED lamp, it creates an extra layer of protection ensuring that the shellac is resistant to scratches. Like we mentioned before, your nails will also stay shiny and vibrant for weeks and it acts as a barrier in protecting your natural nails.

We have over 75 CND colours in our salon and would love for you to start reaping the benefits of these gorgeous products. Log In Never created a password? You are not currently subscribed.
