This new version runs way better, has cleaned up visuals, and packs in all the DLC previously released, with plans for new DLC to come later as well. Set in a fairly standard fantasy world called the Faelands, you create a character from one of four races, two types of humans, dark elves and light elves, and three classes.
These classes are Might, Finesse, and Sorcery, which equate to warrior, thief, and magic classes in most other titles. Combat is more action-focused and leagues above Skyrim in terms of feedback and general fun. There are dozens of weapons you can swap between with their own move sets, plus a Reckoning Mode you can trigger that is essentially a time-slowing mechanic to thrash on the slowed enemies. Quests are plentiful in this world, and the main quest is pretty good, at least high enough quality to draw you along to see its conclusion.
You can do some pretty interesting NPC interactions as well, such as steal from or even kill them. Because so many need to make concessions to fit and even just be controlled well on consoles, RPGs have, for the most part, gotten less complex over time.
This throwback to the CRGPs of the past, this game thrives on being a unique experience for every single player due to how much it takes into account. Unlike Skyrim, in Divinity 2: Original Sin , you control an entire party of characters. While you do still have a main character, the ability to build your entire party for different situations and as unique classes offers way more opportunities for experimentation on a single playthrough.
That being said, the number of ways this game can change based on your choices and actions make it almost endlessly repayable. The added co-op mode, where you can play the entire campaign with a friend, just makes the experience even more fun and tactical. You play as the lowly son of a blacksmith but will work your way up to be an important and influential role in the civil war in historic 15th-century Bohemia. You can even customise your followers.
Just like Skyrim, players have the ability to craft their own weapons and armour, and while there is a core plot with a linear timeline, players have a lot of options as to how they get there.
Inquisition is also a very popular game due to its lore aspects, characters and the possible relationships. What they do have going for them, however, are their dungeons. The first thing that pops to mind when you see these stone walls, metal spikes, giant spiders and other various baddies is the Skyrim dungeons. You even play prisoners in both Grimrock and Skyrim. In Horizon Zero Dawn, you play as Aloy, a hunter in a world where nature and machines are intertwined on the deepest level.
The game is set on a pre-determined plot, but you can choose how you get there. A character with powers laying dormant within, travelling across the wide map to level up and become the closest thing to a God on the mortal realm? Feels like a Dragonborn to me. You can choose from five different races for your characters, with different play styles and combat abilities among them.
The game is massively open-world, with the ability to go anywhere on the map you want, interact with the NPCs however you want, and find your way though the game how you want to play, rather than following a set plot. There is a main quest, but you can still plug hours of fun into the game while keeping to the spirit of Skyrim and ignoring it. You can play as a long range archer, sneak around with your assassin stealth skills, or just go full-on warrior and charge in with your Legendary Hammer of Jason and a war cry.
Take sides in the civil war with the Imperials or the Stormcloaks — I mean the Athenians or the Spartans — or stay as impartial as possible while still kicking major butt. Customise your weapons and armour, find insane enemies to fight, and try not to fall off too many cliffs.
