Now this happens every time I try to shut down my laptop, even though I have no programs to my knowledge open or running. When I turn my laptop back on after this error appears, I then have more problems, with messages saying "there was a problem shutting down your computer", messages recommending I select "Windows repair", crash dumping files, resetting programs or deleting recently downloading, and resetting my desktop to a version I had months ago.
I always make sure I close out of all programs before attempting to shut down my laptop, and have even gone in to task manager to make sure no programs are running. How can I fix this problem?
Could there be 'invisible' programs running that I'm unaware of, and how can I stop them from running? Any answers are much appreciated, thank you. This thread is locked. When restarting or shutting down Vista, I am shown the "The following programs are still running:" black screen with the list of programs that haven't shut down yet.
If any program prompted me for an action that would allow it to close, I cannot deal with the prompt once the Vista "programs still running" black screen has come up. XP's behaviour was just fine, as it let me deal with the application prompts as they came up. Vista's bevahiour blocks me from doing this.
